Sand Mountain Trip Report
Spring Break 2007

Our camp at Sand Mountain
We arrived Sunday afternoon so the camping area was emptying
out. It was great to be at Sand Mountain without too many people there.
Kawasaki KFX450R:
We picked up a new quad last week, and spent some time doing a
little testing. The new ride is a Kawasaki KFX450R. Look for an article
in Sand Addiction Magazine this summer.

Geocaching:
We decided to do a bit of Geocaching at Sand Mountain with the
Rhino and our hand held GPS. We went to one new geocache:
This geocache is west of Sand Mountain, but can be easily
reached by going to the old windmill, then follow the main trail west to the
monument.

The monument is in honor of the men of Black Knight 732, an
H-3 Helicopter that crashed here on March 22, 1978. The helicopter was
returning from a Combat Rescue Training Mission in Dixie Valley when it
crashed. All five crewmen aboard died in the crash.
We also revisited two caches:
See the DuneGuide.com
Geocaching info page for more details on geocaching while at the dunes. We
have made it easy for you to click on your favorite sand dune and bring up all
the geocaches nearby.

NAS Fallon "fly bys". Everyone loves to see the planes
come in close.

Beautiful sunset at the top of Sand Mountain - Dave's Birthday

At the top of Inspiration Point. This fantastic spot will soon be closed
because the BLM sided with the Indian tribe. Once again, off-roaders loose.

Our sand car has a new owner....

We hiked up the mountain to the east of the camping area. Not the easiest
place to hike, but the view was awesome!
