2007 Labor Day Weekend - Sand Mountain, NV
First run with the new sand car

First trip in the new sand car went well. We did lots
of tweaks to the bypass shocks, and did a bunch of driving.

Fabrications Unlimited and Mark's Tom Pro Designs.
Testing out the new KFX450R suspension - Fox Shox, Laeger's
Racing, Durablue

Paul's ultralight flight over Sand Mountain ends with a
ticket for $275

Paul taking off on along the access road

This Ranger came up right next to where Paul was setting up.
He was asked if there was a problem taking off and his answer was "I don't
see a problem with it".

Paul flying over the top of Sand Mountain

Another Ranger came up to us after Paul landed and said that
he was going to have to give him a ticket, but that "it wouldn't be that
bad". The ticketing officer said the one that gave Paul the permission
"didn't know what he was talking about." Paul's ultralight flight over Sand
Mountain ended with a BLM Ranger giving him a $275 ticket. So much
for consistent law enforcement.
BLM presence at Sand Mountain was a bit extreme. They
had a trailer and sand rail from Glamis up, plus the sand rail from Carson
City. At least on Raptor, and probably ten other street vehicles.
Pretty sure the cost for the weekend was pretty hefty. BLM could have
done the same job with half the force.
Brian's exploded Mendeola S4

Brian broke his brand new Mendeola S4 Transaxle. This
was his second trip. The ring gear exploded and broke through the
case.
